Mindsight Skills for Emotional Intelligence

Over the past 40 years emotional intelligence has emerged as a critical theory that helps build meaningful personal learning and change for thinking positively and acting wisely. Recent research has added the link between Mindsight skills and emotional intelligence. According to mindsight experts, Mindsight is the key to emotional intelligence. Join us for a day of exploration through Mindsight and interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) for developing emotional intelligence!

Mindsight Learning Objectives


Participants will:

  • Understand the relationship between Mindsight and emotional intelligence.
  • Understand the value of mindsight for building positive emotional intelligence skills for healthy relationships. 
  • Become familiar with the triangle of human reality and how each leg relates to your mind's development.
  • Appreciate Mindsight's role in changing thinking, feelings, and behaviors. 
  • Review how personal life experiences build the framework for you mind's development.
  • Learn how memory is the root of your emotional responses through your mind processes.
  • Appreciate the integration of the mind for healthy, positive relationships and how the lack of it builds chaos and rigidity in your mind's processes.
  • Understand the importance of neuroplasticity and how we are able to change thoughts, feelings, and behaviors throughout life.
  • Learn how to map your mind for positive outcomes in your relationships and work.
  • Learn how our social connections affect how we learn. 
  • Understand the importance of and how to create an integrated self for building harmony in your life.
  • Learn how mindfulness helps build focused success outcomes in your goals. 
  • Open discussion on how you can personally develop mindsight, integrate your mind, and build positive relationships with yourself and others.
  • Discuss how you can build new memories and build a sense of internal harmony.

Meet Mindsight Facilitator: Ross Ellis


Ross F. Ellis, Ph.D.

Dr. Ross Ellis is a twenty-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and Air Force, where he served as meteorologist and solar astronomer, as well as a psychiatric clinic manager. Civilian experience includes education in Counseling Psychology and certification as an Adlerian Psychotherapist, credentials used in mental health interventions in Omaha, Nebraska. Through his company, Emotional Intelligence Training, Dr. Ellis has provided training services for companies in the Ukraine, as well as Eastern Ukraine University. He is also the developer and President of the Foundation for Training Mental Health Professionals and works through multiple mental health methodologies. Dr. Ellis is a founding faculty member of the Emotional Intelligence Training and Research Institute (EITRI). He is currently studying Neuropsychotherapy with the Australian Neuropsychotherapy Institute–Queensland, Australia, and is a member of the Mindfulness Institute of Dr. Dan Siegel.

Meet Mindsight Facilitator: Eleazar Cano


Eleazar Cano, LPC

Eleazar Cano was born and raised in the beautiful Big Bend community of Alpine, Texas. His undergraduate studies were in Criminal Justice, and his graduate degree is in Education with an emphasis in Counseling. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas. His counseling experience includes High Frontier Youth Counselor (Ft. Davis, Texas); Big Bend Community MHMR Services Intake Coordinator, Counselor, and Case Manager; Program Director of the Big Bend State Operated Community Services for Child and Adolescent Program Services; Nueva Luz Counseling Services (Alpine, Texas); and several positions related to mental health and student services at Sul Ross State University, including Title III-HIS Program Student Intervention Specialist, Upward Bound Program Project Director, and Counseling and Advising Center Therapist and Academic Advisor. He now combines his passion for emotional intelligence, counseling, and law through his services as the County Judge for Brewster County.
